July 2013 Walks

There is continuing difficulty with travel at weekends largely due to engineering work.  Please check all train times. We will endeavour to put any changes on the home page of this website, but this cannot be guaranteed.


Saturday July 6  Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. 7 hilly miles.  Meet leader at Eastbourne station, then catch the 13X bus at 11.20 from Eastbourne Pier to Beachy Head to walk the Seven Sisters.  Lunch at Birling Gap. Return to Eastbourne by bus from Exceat Bridge. Depart Victoria 9.15, arrive Eastbourne 10.44.

Sunday July 7                Teddington circular.  9 miles. Lunch at Hampton Court, returning via Home Park and Bushey Park. Depart Waterloo 9.18, arrive Teddington 9.56.

Saturday July 13            Chesham to Chorleywood.  8 to 9 miles with some hills. Lunch at Flaunden.  Depart Baker Street 9.15, arrive Chesham 10.14.

Sunday July 14              Linear Clandon to West Humble.  About 14 miles, with some hills.  Via Clandon Downs to the North Downs Way, then through Shere to Sutton Abinger (pub lunch at “The Volunteer”, or bring own food).  Continuing by Deerleap Wood and Coombe Farm, and back on the North Downs Way to Ranmore Common (tea at the church).  Depart Waterloo 9.00, Clapham Junction 09.09, change at Guildford (arriving 09.43); take rail replacement bus to Clandon, departs 10.14, arrives 10.33.

Saturday July 20            Ingatestone circular.  13 miles. Fairly flat with pub lunch at Blackmore Village. Depart Liverpool Street 9.48, Stratford 9.55, arrive Ingatestone 10.15.

Sunday July 21              East Malling toBorough Green. 9½ miles with pub lunch at Addington Green.  Depart Victoria 9.36, arrive East Malling 10.32.

Wednesday 24 July       Cookham figure-of eight, about 10 miles. Longer northern loop in the morning via Winter Hill, southern loop via Boulter’s Lock, after pub or picnic lunch in Cookham.  Depart Paddington 9.57, Ealing Broadway 10.05, change Maidenhead for 10.38, arrive Cookham 10.45.

Thursday July 25           Chiswick area stroll – about two hours – towards the river and Dukes Meadows through lovely open spaces.  Meet Chiswick Station at 6.45pm.Leader: Tom Berry



Saturday Jul 27              Bentley to Alton. 10 miles via Oakhanger (lunch at The Red Lion). Depart Waterloo 9.53, Clapham Junction 10.00, arrive Bentley 11.02.

Sunday July 28              Rye to Hastings linear. 13 miles. Early lunch at The New Inn, Winchelsea.  Afternoon: Military Canal, cliff scenery and possible tea at Fairlight village.  Depart Charing Cross 8.33, Waterloo East 8.40, London Bridge 8.45, change Ashford International for 10.22 to arrive Rye 10.43.
