January 2015 Walks

Thursday January 1                  New Year Celebration Stroll. Let’s blow the cobwebs away after last night’s celebrations, with a gentle 5 mile stroll from Holland Park to Hyde Park, finishing near the New Year Parade at Westminster.  Meet outside Holland Park Station (Central Line) at 11.00.  If you come on the stroll, please bring a glass.  Mobile on the day only (07751 957 380).

Sunday January 4                      Putney Circular. 12 miles with fine views and plenty of opportunities to shorten the walk.  North bank of Thames in the morning, south bank in the afternoon.  Lunch at Strand on the Green.  Meet Putney Bridge station (District line) at 10.00.

Wednesday January 7               Wallace Collection stroll.  6 miles from Marylebone to Covent Garden. Blue plaques and places of interest during the walk.  Café or pub lunch in area near Wallace Collection.  Meet at the ticket office, Marylebone mainline station at 11.00.

Saturday January 10                Area AGM. Venue: Chalfont St. Peter Community Centre, Mary

Smithells Room. Access is from Gravel Hill (the A413 towards Amersham), post code SL9 9QX, grid ref SU999912, time of meeting 1.45pm (Saturday 10th January 2015). Chalfont St. Peter is served by the 730 bus service (hourly on a Saturday: Hemel Hempstead to Uxbridge via Amersham).

 

We have permission to use their car park for the morning walk, starting at 10am. Leader and length not yet settled, but probably about 6 miles; contact John Esslemont  (01494 881597). We have the use of the room from 1pm, so that those staying after the walk can eat sandwiches in there if required. Further information in South East Walker.

 

Sunday January 11                    Wendover circular. 11 miles. Hilly morning. Via Coombe Hill and Chequers to the Red Lion, Whiteleaf for lunch. Return via Little Hampden and Dunsmore. Depart Marylebone 9.12, Harrow-on-the-hill 9.24, arrive Wendover 10.00.

Saturday January 17                 Ware, Stanstead Abbotts and Great Amwell. Circular 6.5 mile easy walk.  See Walk news flash for train time change. Depart Liverpool Street 10.25, arrive Ware 11.10.  Mobile on day: 07719 193 235.

Sunday January 18                    Richmond to Hampton Court – please welcome a new leader.  About 5 or 6 miles along the Thames Path.  Meet at Richmond Station at 1.00.  Mobile on the day only: 07442 670 198.

Saturday January 24th             Saunderton Circular. 10.7 miles. One or two steep hills, but otherwise gentle gradients and fine views. We will aim for a brisk pace. Lunch stop is the Lions, Church End, Bledlow.  Depart London Marylebone 10.09, arrive Saunderton 10.47. Sunday January 25                  New Malden to Putney Bridge following the Beverley Brook.  8 miles.  Lunch at Roehampton Gate, Richmond Park.  Depart Waterloo 9.57, Clapham Junction 10.06, arrive New Malden 10.19.

Wednesday January 28             Chalfont & Latimer to Watford.  8½ miles via the Chess Valley to Church End for lunch.  Continue via Mickelfield Hall and Red Heath to Cassiobury Park (possible tea stop).  Return from Watford Met station.  Depart Marylebone 9.42, Harrow-on-the-Hill 9.54, arrive Chalfont & Latimer 10.13.
