London LOOP
The London Outer Orbital Path runs for 150 miles around London, further out than the Capital Ring and with paths that are often more rough and rural, and in places quite hilly. It passes through ancient woodland and forests, across commons and downs and passes many historic houses and other places of interest. Yet despite its rural character it is easy to access by public transport and with one exception all the stations fall within the Oyster or Freedom Pass zones.
We have decided to follow the sections outlined in the official trail guide rather than the more numerous and shorter ones on the TFL web-site. This means that most of the walks are between 8 and 12 miles although it is usually possible to drop out en route if you want to.
We began on 16th February from Erith Riverside with impressive views of the Thames Estuary and Purfleet on the opposite bank where the walk will finish on 16th November. We are now walking clockwise around London covering a section every 2-3 weeks on Thursdays. Full details of each walk are on the programme and anyone is welcome to join us for just the occasional walk or undertake the challenge of completing the whole trail. You can download a certificate from the TFL web-site!
