North Downs Way
This is one of the national long distance paths running for 153 miles from Farnham in Surrey to Dover and Canterbury in Kent. The walks are generally quite strenuous involving steep ascents and descents but the reward is spectacular views of some of southern England’s finest countryside.
We began the trail in June 2016 and reached Wrotham by November. After a break during the winter months we resume in March with walks on the third Saturday of each month. We plan to reach Dover in August and then to return to Boughton Lees to pick up the Canterbury loop, reaching the beautiful cathedral city in October with time for sightseeing and a celebratory meal.
Generally, the path is fairly easily accessible by public transport but there is usually a ‘link’ from the station so the total miles we will have walked will actually be rather more than 153.
The full details of each walk will appear in the programme and people are very welcome to join us for occasional walks or to commit to the challenge of completing the whole trail. The national Long Distance Footpath Association awards certificates for completing the whole route and it is also possible to purchase a NDW mug from their web-site!
